One Community, Many Chapters: Caring for Seniors Across Generations

For many families, the search for senior living begins with a single question: What happens if needs change over time?

It’s a practical concern, but behind it is something deeper. Moving is hard at any stage of life. For older adults, especially, the idea of relocating multiple times as health needs evolve can feel overwhelming.

That’s why many families are looking for something more: not just a place to live today, but a plan for the years ahead.

For more than eight decades, Chapel Pointe has provided that kind of stability in Carlisle—growing alongside the community it serves.

What began as a commitment to care for retired pastors and missionaries has evolved into a full continuum of care for seniors from all walks of life, while maintaining the same core values.

“Since Chapel Pointe was founded at our present site in 1944, our mission has always been to serve seniors with a place where they’re respected, cared for, and able to live purposeful lives,” said Kent Peachey, chief executive officer. “While much has changed in Carlisle over the decades, our commitment to this community has remained constant.”

A Community That Grows With You

Today, Chapel Pointe offers a full continuum of care, including independent living, personal care (assisted living), memory support, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing care.

This model allows residents to remain in a familiar environment, even as their needs change. Rather than facing a disruptive move, residents can transition to different levels of support while staying connected to the people and routines they know.

“When someone moves here, they’re not just choosing a place for today,” Peachey said. “They’re choosing a community that can walk with them through whatever the future holds.”

Built on Relationships

One of the most meaningful aspects of a continuing care community is the relationships that take root among staff, residents, and families.

“It’s not uncommon for us to care for someone and then hear from their children years later when another family member needs support,” said Peachey. “We’ve cared for parents, then later their children, and in some cases, even multiple generations at once.”

That kind of trust is built over years of consistent care and a commitment to treating each resident as an individual.

Evolving to Meet Changing Needs

While Chapel Pointe’s mission has remained steady, it has continued to grow alongside the changing needs of the local community.

Originally known as the Alliance Home, the community began in the 27-room Bedford Estate, which still serves as the main entrance today. At that time, the surrounding area was largely rural. Over the years, that landscape shifted—M.J. Mall came and went, Lamberton Middle School was built, and the Carlisle Commons shopping center reshaped the southern end of town.

Through it all, Chapel Pointe has remained a constant presence, adapting to meet the needs of each generation it serves. The community expanded to include 100 independent living homes, 49 personal care accommodations, and 59 skilled nursing rooms, while staying rooted in its original mission.

Today, that same commitment continues across campus, with a focus on enhancing quality of life, preserving dignity, and supporting meaningful daily experiences.

A Foundation of Stability

For families planning ahead, stability is often one of the most important considerations.

Communities with a long-standing presence and a full range of services offer reassurance that care will be available for years to come.

As a nonprofit, Chapel Pointe is guided by a mission to serve rather than generate profit—allowing resources to be reinvested into the organization and its residents.

That mission has remained consistent over time, supported by a governance structure that has never been sold or merged, and a continued affiliation with the Christian and Missionary Alliance.

This steady foundation has helped sustain its presence in Carlisle for generations and earned the trust of the broader community. Chapel Pointe has been recognized with honors such as the Reader’s Choice award for Simply the Best Senior Living, consistently been named the Best of Cumberland County, and is considered among the top 10% of Pennsylvania’s skilled nursing communities by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Looking Ahead

For those beginning the search for senior living—or simply thinking about the future—the idea of “one move” instead of many can be a meaningful shift in perspective.

In communities designed to support multiple stages of living, the focus extends beyond immediate needs to long-term wellbeing.

“Ultimately, people want to know they’re in a place where they’ll be cared for, no matter what the future brings,” said Peachey. “That’s what we’ve been striving to provide within the Carlisle community for more than 80 years.”

For many families, that sense of continuity—having a place that feels familiar, supportive, and enduring—makes all the difference.
