Dorothy Oberg Turns 100

Chapel Pointe resident Dorothy Oberg is celebrating her 100th birthday on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020. When asked the secret to her longevity, she explained, “I never drank or smoked. I kept active, and I loved to go for bike rides.”

Dorothy was born east of Pittsburgh, Pa., in Westmoreland County, to Guy Hesselgesser and Blanche McCurdy. The oldest of five siblings, Dorothy spent most of her childhood playing with her two brothers and two sisters.

On Feb. 5, 1949, she married the love of her life, John “Jack” Oberg. After 71 years, they still inspire younger generations who enjoy seeing the Obergs holding hands and talking gently to one another. Dorothy says their marriage is special because, “We take care of and are good to each other.”

Dorothy and Jack have three children: Patricia, Beverly, and Wayne. Dorothy also had a successful career as a clerical worker at Walter Reed Hospital in Maryland.

Dorothy’s advice for future generations is simple: “Have a good life!”

Happy Birthday, Dorothy!
